Water is scarce in California as well as in other states - large scale drought is already occurring in the Western United States, with the lowest rainfall, groundwater and reservoir levels in decades.   • Habitat conservation. Minimizing human water use helps to preserve fresh water habitats for local wildlife and migrating waterfowl, as well as reducing the need to build new dams and other water diversion infrastructure.
  • Reducing costs. As the price for potable water increases, it will be more and more beneficial to reduce , reuse or capture rainwater in order to ensure businessses remain profitable.
